Quintus and I recently talked on this and discussed the possibility of having a cronjob
move logs older than a given date into a directory not exposed over the web and then
automatically compressing them. This allows us to retain the old logs while reducing
space and not making really old logs public. They can then be searched on the Alexandria
server using the grep utility.
They can be useful - Quintus was able to find requirements for our issue tracker from old
IRC conversations using clever greps.
