I was originally wrong about the deletion of old posts, but I think it
will delete users' graphic icons when their accounts are deleted.
It doesn’t really “delete” them because there are no avatars stored on
the
secretmaryo.org server (as opposed to our forum). The avatars are
only referenced from external web pages by a link you add to your
profile. Hence, if ouy delete the profile, the link gets lost, and thus
the avatar vanishes.
As a side note, I regard that bad programming practise. It reveals the
IP of people surfing the forum to other servers unexpectedly, which is a
privacy issue. That’s the reason why Chessboard doesn’t allow such
things. I’m going to change Gravatar handling a bit also to better
preserve privacy in this regard.
I would still suggest waiting on deleting accounts until we do
another
site scrape. As long as a site scrape is looming, people tasked with
that work will see spam bots if they break through again.
For now I think the registration lock is sufficient.
So I’m going to lock the registration now. Or try to. I don’t know if I
have sufficient rights to do that. If not...
Vale,
Quintus
